Why Ride the Highlands is one Kickass Motorcycle Destination

/ May 30, 2017

The road builders of the past had it right. Rather than build straight boring roads in Ontario’s Highlands, they had a vision and built roads knowing full-well that they were way more than just simple transportation grids. They knew someone would come along eventually and celebrate their efforts. They knew they would be on two wheels.

That someone is the Ride the Highlands team and we were directly inspired by these artisans of asphalt. We want to ensure that what happens off the bike rivals what happens when you’re on it. Here are some leathery insights into what it takes to make this epic motorcycle playground rev out.

1. Our Operators have to pass the test

Every restaurant, attraction and accommodation that dots Ride the Highlands’ themed routes has gone through a motorcycle amenity checklist to ensure they are rider friendly. This guarantees that when you drop your kickstand, extra measures have been made to meet your needs.

2. All routes are rider approved

All of the roads selected for our themed routes, Pick Axe Adventure Loop and top 10 roads have been tested by members of the Ride the Highlands team. We don’t just pick a road because it looks like it would be good; we pick a road because we’ve ridden it and then ridden it again and again. We want to make sure our routes have just the right amount of twisties (really there can never be too many).

3. Motorcycle-Only Parking

We know that you need a good solid surface and a place where your bikes can be seen. Motorcycle only parking is another cool way we say, “Welcome Riders”. Keep your eyes open for these signs at many of our stops.

4. Easy trip planning

Our goal is to make the trip planning process as easy as possible for you. This is why we created the saddle bag function on the website. Just select a route on the interactive map, pick your stops along the route and add them to your saddle bag. Once you’re happy with your trip, share the itinerary with your friends and you’re ready to go.

5. Every route has a GPX download

If you don’t have one yet, make sure you order your free Ride the Highlands map to take on the road with you. If you like using a GPS as well, Ride the Highlands has also created GPX maps of each route that you can download for easy navigation. Choose a route and find the download GPX option on the right-hand side of the page.

6. Thanks for being so awesome

To thank our riders for being so awesome and choosing Ride the Highlands, we are giving away our official Ride the Highlands Patch.

7. We’re here to help
