Five Roads for Fantastic Fall Riding
/ September 8, 2023
Fall is an exciting time to explore Ontario’s Highlands. While the roads we ride do not change from the spring and summer months, the landscape does.
Views of green turn into vibrant colours of red, orange and yellow, making your journey a completely different riding experience. This year, check out these five fantastic roads we think you should add to your autumn riding tour.
Probably the most popular road for fall colour is Highway 60. This iconic roadway winds through Algonquin Provincial Park. With many people trekking up from the GTA to view the vibrant fall colours, we suggest riding from east to west for less traffic. You can ride straight through the park without paying a day use fee, but if you plan on stopping to take in the epic views at locations like the Algonquin Park Visitor Centre, you will have to purchase a pass in advance. We suggest planning ahead and purchasing your pass five days ahead of your trip, as the park reaches capacity frequently during the fall months.
Worth the Stop:
If you’re planning a Ride the Highlands trip this fall, make sure you include Siberia Road in your route. Starting from Barry’s Bay, ride south. This road is full of curves and elevation changes, but the pièce de résistance is when Siberia Road drops down into the Madawaska Valley giving you an amazing view of the fall colours.
Worth the Stop:
From the ups and downs, to the twists and turns, Letterkenny Road provides you with so many spectacular views for your autumn colours tour. While this road is so much fun on a regular day with all of the curves and elevations changes, the addition of the fall colours adds a vivacious element to its epic curves and elevation changes. We suggest riding Letterkenny Road both ways to take it all in, as well as add Rockingham and Foymount Road to each end.
Worth the Stop:
- Rockingham Church
- Letterkenny Sign
While this historic road with its lakeside rest stops is great anytime of year, riding it during the fall is extra memorable. Another taste of Ontario’s Highlands fall beauty, Madawaska Road provides curve after curve of endless fall colour.
Worth the Stop:
Get ready to blow your mind with the rolling hills of the Highlands. Highway 28 from Bancroft to Denbigh is a smooth flowing ribbon through the valley. The road will open up to waves of fall colour that go on for miles.
Worth the Stop:
If you’ve been hoping to take a fall motorcycle tour to see the fiery fall colour views, make this the year. Add these top five roads to your Fall Loop, or ride à la carte, creating your own fall adventure. Don’t forget to check out these coffee shops on those cooler days to warm you up and keep you going. See you on the road!
Love all these roads all the time
